While in Manila for our BSF area workshop, the very kind Filipino leaders offered to take us to the pearl market. Our return flight to Bangkok was not departing until very late, so they planned a shopping trip and dinner for us while we waited.
One of the women asked me if I knew how to tell whether a pearl was genuine or not. Of course I did not. She explained to me that you needed to bite the pearl and if it tasted salty then it was real. If no salty taste, then the pearl was a fake.
As I returned to Thailand, I was thinking about the millions in my city that do not know the Lord Jesus. They are surrounded by spiritual options. How do they know which one is genuine? How can they "taste and see that the Lord is good?" In John 17:23, Jesus said, "May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them . . ."
I pray for the people in Bangkok to discover that Jesus is genuine because they have tasted and tested His people and found them to be the real thing! Pray that my life and the lives of the BSF leaders will "taste salty!"
